So I gave Luhai a ride to the college of engineering graduation ceremony, and scribbled down something while waiting:
This is the first time for me to be in the Assembly Hall since my own graduation from undergraduate nearly two years ago. It feels so different sitting in the audience seat comparing to sitting down on the floor, and even though I am aware of the actual capacity, the interior looks surprisingly small. I must be somewhat big, though, to be able to fit the whole college of engineering graduates.
Considering that the Assembly Hall is out basketball team's home court, it's not surprising that the floor is bare and the seats are hard. It wasn't designed as an auditorium in the first place, after all. With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to show off the newly remodeled Memorial Stadium if the weather is nice for graduation next year ( This is, of course, totally impossible considering the weather pattern over here at Champaign-Urban during this period)
They really do need to improve the parking arrangement here, though, or space out the events more. Parking is a pain, especially when you have parents and newly graduated student running around the parking lot, in come cases without looking around first.
So why am I here? I did not plan to be here until I got a call from Luhai for a ride, and since Mike from my research group and another Mike from my undergraduate dorm are both receiving their Master of Science, I decided it might be worth it to show up. I can proudly say, though, that the Dean's English improved quite a lot over the past two years (had him for my undergraduate graduation ceremony as well...)
Anyway, it was boring, ridiculously long, but at least I'm not at home doing nothing. Plus I was planning to go to Luhai's place to help preparing for the BBQ tomorrow, so that's that.
