If you're in Singapore, you'll see hawker stations with signs saying Western Food.

Western food, huh? Nice try, but no thanks.

There are a few fundamental differences between "Western Food" and "Singapore Style Western Food." For one, Western dishes encompassed anything from Greek dishes to Scottish Feast; the Western food in Singapore is, well, sort of like a bad imitation of American food, with the portion reduced to half of what we see in the US usually. There would be a meat, usually a slice of beef or a chicken cutlet, some fries or fried rice, coleslaw, and sweet beans (yeah, sweet beans that looked like Mexican baked beans.)

For those of you who have been to an American restaurant would know that even diners would server their coleslaw and beans/chili in a small container. Not here. Try to eat your french fries as they happily swim in a mix of steak sauce, coleslaw sauce, and bean juice. How appetizing. With that said, I have been staying away from the "Western Food" food stands ever since I first tried it the second day I was here. Until tonight, that is. It just happened that they are the last ones to close, and I ran out of options.

Note to self, eat dinner at dinner time, not late night snake time.

I guess that's why I walked all the way to Outback last Sunday. At least the food there is authentically American, meaning that it's probably a remix of random European food with added grease and salt. At least it taste good.
